Plastic Extrusion Die Cost in Pakistan

What a custom extrusion die costs, what affects the price, and how long it takes to make, explained in plain English.

What Does a Plastic Extrusion Die Cost?

A custom plastic extrusion die typically costs between PKR 50,000 and PKR 500,000, depending on the complexity of the profile, its size, wall thickness, and the number of cavities.

This is a one-time tooling cost. Once your die is made and approved, you only pay for the plastic produced on every order after that, including repeat orders placed months or years later. The die stays at our factory, ready for your next run.

Pricing Factors

What Affects the Cost of an Extrusion Die?

Every die is custom machined for your exact profile, so price depends on a few key factors.

01

Profile Complexity

A simple solid strip costs less to tool than a multi-chamber hollow profile or a profile with fine sealing lips.

02

Size and Wall Thickness

Larger cross-sections and profiles with varying wall thickness need more machining and flow-balancing work.

03

Tolerance Requirements

Tighter dimensional tolerances require more precise machining and more time checking the die before approval.

04

Number of Cavities

Multi-cavity dies that produce more than one profile strand per pass cost more than a single-cavity die.

05

Die Steel Grade

Harder, more wear-resistant tool steel costs more to machine but holds its finish for far more production before it needs attention, which matters most on abrasive or glass-filled materials.

Material and Lifespan

Premium Tool Steel for a Longer-Lasting Die

How long a die lasts comes down to three things: the grade of tool steel it is machined from, how that steel is heat-treated, and the surface protecting it from wear. We machine every die from premium-grade tool steel, selected to match your specific profile, the material being extruded, and the tolerance required, not one cheaper grade used for every order.

Every die also gets high-chrome polishing as standard, at no extra charge. Chrome plating cuts friction between the plastic melt and the die surface, resists corrosion, and protects the steel underneath from abrasive or glass-filled compounds that wear tooling faster. That combination, the right steel grade plus a hard chrome surface, is why our dies are built for repeat production rather than a single run: the die stays at our factory and goes straight back into production on every repeat order, months or years later.

Timeline

How Long Does It Take to Make a Die?

For a completely new profile:

StageTypical Duration
Design review and quotation2 to 3 business days
Die design and machining2 to 4 weeks
Trial run and sample production1 to 3 days

Most dies take two to four weeks from design approval to first trial run. Complex profiles or dies requiring additional polishing may take longer. We produce and check trial samples before moving to bulk production. For the full order timeline including bulk production, see our Plastic Extrusion Guide.

Why PlasCity?

Why Get Your Extrusion Die Made Here?

01

In-House Die Making

We design and machine every die in our own workshop. No outsourcing, no middleman markup on your tooling cost.

02

High-Chrome Polishing Standard

Every die includes high-chrome polishing at no extra cost, for better wear life and a smoother profile finish.

03

45+ Years Experience

We have been designing and machining extrusion dies since 1978. We know how to avoid common die design problems before they cost you time.

04

Built for Volume

Your die runs on one of 13 in-house extrusion lines producing over 600,000 metres of profile every month, so the die you pay for is backed by real production capacity.

Common Questions

Extrusion Die Cost FAQ

How much does a plastic extrusion die cost?+

A custom extrusion die typically costs between PKR 50,000 and PKR 500,000, depending on the complexity of the profile, its size, wall thickness, and the number of cavities. This is a one-time tooling cost. Once the die is made and approved, you only pay for the plastic produced on every order after that. Contact us with your drawing or sample for an exact quote.

How long does it take to make an extrusion die?+

Most dies take two to four weeks from design approval to first trial run. Complex profiles or dies requiring additional polishing may take longer. We produce and check trial samples before moving to bulk production.

Is high-chrome polishing included in the die cost?+

Yes. High-chrome polishing is included as standard on all our extrusion dies and injection moulds, at no extra charge. It gives the tooling a hard, corrosion-resistant surface and helps produce a smoother, more consistent finish on the extruded profile.

What affects the cost of an extrusion die?+

Die cost depends mainly on the complexity of the profile cross-section, its overall size, wall thickness and tolerance requirements, and the number of cavities needed. Simple solid strips cost less than multi-chamber hollow profiles or sealing profiles with fine lips.

Is the extrusion die cost a one-time payment?+

Yes. The die is made once and then kept at our factory for all future production of that profile. You pay the die cost once, then only pay the per-metre production price on every order after that, including repeat orders placed months or years later.

How does an extrusion die cost compare to an injection mould cost?+

Both are one-time tooling costs in a similar range, typically PKR 50,000 to PKR 500,000 depending on complexity. An extrusion die shapes a continuous profile as it is pushed through, while an injection mould forms an individual three-dimensional part, which is why mould development generally takes longer, three to eight weeks against two to four weeks for a die. Which one you need depends on whether your product is a continuous profile or a discrete shaped part.

Do I need to pay for a new die on repeat orders?+

No. Once your die is made and approved, it stays at our factory. Repeat orders of the same profile use the existing die, so you only pay the per-metre production cost, not the tooling cost again.

What steel is used to make the extrusion die?+

We machine dies from premium-grade tool steel, most commonly P20, H13, or D2, selected to match your specific profile, the material being extruded, and the tolerance and surface finish required. We work with whichever grade best fits the job rather than one steel for every order.

How long does an extrusion die last?+

Die life depends mainly on the steel grade, heat treatment, and surface finish, with maintenance as the single biggest factor within our control. We use premium tool steel combined with high-chrome polishing as standard on every die, which significantly extends its working life, especially when running abrasive or glass-filled compounds. Because the die is kept at our factory, it goes straight back into production on every repeat order, months or years after it was first made.

Who owns the die once I have paid for it?+

You do. Once the die, or injection mould, is paid for, it belongs to you. We keep it at our factory for your future production runs, but it is your tooling.
